Oman Trekking: Adventure Handbook
Known as the region's leading mapping specialists and adventure publishers, Explorer Publishing was invited to work closely with Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Tourism to produce and retail Oman Trekking, a selection of hiking routes to help adventurers discover breathtaking routes across the country. Containing a trekking handbook, inspiring photography, pull-out map and individual route cards for travelling light, the popular guide helped novices and experienced hikers discover new places to fall in love with in this unique destination. The product reached a wide audience of visitors through Explorer's distribution network of more than 600 retailers across the GCC, as well as our online platforms.

Creative Approach
The design prioritises user-friendliness and durability, with A5-sized route cards and a fold-out area map that fit easily into backpacks or glove compartments. Clean layouts and bold, region-specific colours ensure clarity, while the compact format enhances portability. The crafted box packaging reflects quality and professionalism, aligning with Oman’s commitment to promoting tourism.
Editorial Strategy
Explorer’s editorial team combined in-depth desk research with input from the Ministry’s on-ground experts to craft the Trekking Handbook and route guides. Each route card provides essential information, including trek types, highlights, GPS coordinates for starting points, detailed directions, and route summaries covering time, altitude, difficulty, and distance. The handbook delivers comprehensive advice on trip preparation, trekking essentials, safety tips, cultural guidance, and emergency contacts. The editorial content reflects Explorer’s commitment to accuracy and usability, making the guide an indispensable resource for anyone exploring Oman’s rugged beauty.
Mapping Approach
The Oman Ministry of Tourism provided cartographic data, which Explorer’s team transformed into a detailed and accurate cartographic base map. This base map formed the foundation for creating the trekking route maps, highlighting geographic features, tourist landmarks, and key navigation points. Routes were carefully plotted, with clear markers and legends tailored to each trek, ensuring ease of use and accuracy for hikers. Explorer’s cartographic expertise ensured that the maps were detailed yet simplified for practicality in the field.
