Saadiyat Island

With its bluer-than-blue sea, soft white sands and laidback vibe, Saadiyat Island feels a world away from the city; but thanks to the giant Sheikh Khalifa Highway is only 10 minutes from Downtown Abu Dhabi.

Culture
If Yas is all about thrills and spills, Saadiyat is set to be the calming, cultural capital of the Middle East, with local branches of the world-famous Louvre and Guggenheim on the way in the next few years, as well as other impressive attractions like the Zayed National Museum, the Maritime Museum and The Performing Arts Centre.

If you’re eager for a taste of what’s in store, then head to Manarat Al Saadiyat, a bona fide art space in its own right that hosts some exciting exhibitions and an ongoing series of talks, workshops and events. You can also find out about the developments on Saadiyat, and there’s a fantastic (licensed) restaurant onsite.

Leisure
Hotel offerings on Saadiyat Island are impressive, sumptuous retreats. The St. Regis and Park Hyatt are both beautiful, sprawling properties that are quite unlike anything else in the UAE, backing up onto wild stretches of beach that look more California than Gulf. St.Regis also houses The Collection; a selection of shops and eateries including a Shakespeare & Co. and the excellent Koi restaurant.

Elsewhere, the Monte-Carlo Beach Club, Saadiyat is a taste of the European jetset lifestyle; as well as granting access to a lovely stretch of Arabian Gulf and the swimming pools, there are Jacuzzi and spa facilities, private cabanas and bungalows, and a handful of restaurants and bars to choose from.

For something much more budget-friendly, BAKE beach club runs Saadiyat Public Beach where you can rent sun loungers and try some non-motorised watersports.
