Although a significant portion of a German’s life revolves around their identification card (known affectionately as a perso), it’s only available to German citizens. You’ll need to rely on your passport as a main means of identification. A German driving licence can often do the trick, but, since it doesn’t include an address, some government offices and businesses will refuse to accept it – even if accompanied by your official address registration.
