Breakdowns
If you break down while out and about in the city, try to get someone to help move your car off the street and then call for help. You’ll either have to join an automotive club such as the ADAC (see below), which costs €45 for a single membership or €61 for a couple, or call a tow company. Automobile clubs usually show up within an hour regardless of where you are in Germany, while a tow company will arrive in about the same time in Berlin but take much longer if you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere. Most tow truck drivers are experienced mechanics that may also be able to get your car running again without taking it into the garage. If you’re out in the sticks, get your car off the road and call a towing service.
