Known as the ‘other Bund’, Lujiazui’s riverside is a very pleasant promenade to sit, have a coffee or meal and watch the tourists fight for elbow space across the river. The spruced-up walkway now boasts a park, Spanish restaurant La Verbena (5878 9837) and an obligatory Starbucks. More western and Chinese eating options encircle Super Brand Mall, and most of the office buildings have impressive basement cafeterias for an affordable lunch and dinner. Tourists crowd the Oriental Pearl Tower and Jinmao Tower observation deck, while locals take it easy inside the Grand Hyatt’s cafe on the 54th floor. At night, the most expensive – but arguably the most delicious – meal in the city can be found at Jade on 36 in the Shangri-La hotel.
