Umm Al Quwain

A visit to Umm Al Quwain is a great way to see traditional Emirati life; fishing and date farming are still the main industries, as they have been for centuries. It has plenty of modern attractions too; its beach resorts are popular hangout spots among UAE expats, and you can even go skydiving (see emiratesdropzone.webs.com for details). 

Barracuda Beach Resort
This comfortable, laidback resort is perfect for a short break or even a quick weekend getaway. There’s a variety of rooms, but you might prefer one of the lagoon-side one-bedroom chalets, each of which accommodates up to five people. These are fitted out with kitchenettes and barbecues, which make them ideal for private overnight parties, and the hotel boasts a large pool and Jacuzzi too. 

Dreamland Aqua Park
This impressive waterpark is both huge and hugely popular. Perfect for a family day out, there are more than 30 rides, including four ‘twisting dragons’ that promise white-knuckle thrills. There’s also a lazy river, a wave pool and a play area if you’re looking for something a little more relaxing, as well as a high-salinity floating pool. Dreamland is a great attraction for a weekend trip as you can camp overnight, even staying in one of the tents or huts provided. However, note that Fridays and public holidays are for families only. 

Flamingo Beach Resort
This cheap and cheerful hotel is perfect for nature lovers, as it’s surrounded by a shallow lagoon and green islands that attract a variety of fauna, including visiting flamingos. The hotel organises a variety of excursions to keep guests entertained, including flamingo tours, crab-catching and deep sea fishing trips.
