Bringing Family
Germany’s immigration laws allow you to bring family members with eased visa conditions as long as they’re connected to you. You’ll have to provide your residency permit along with proof of your family connections, such as birth or marriage certificates, translated into German. You will also have to show you’ll be able to support your spouse if they don’t have work privileges. Just as with other visas, you must apply before you arrive in Germany unless you’re from the US, Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand or Switzerland. Family members will be given their own residency permit in their own passport. Spouses do not automatically gain the right to work and may be required to speak basic German (though this usually only applies to foreign spouses of German nationals). Family visas cost the same as normal residency permits: €85 each.
