The area of northern Neukölln along the scenic Landwehrkanal, around Maybachufer and Reuterplatz, has recently been christened Kreuzkölln for its proximity and similarity to bordering Kreuzberg. Word of the neighbourhood’s charms has spread beyond the artists who long had a stronghold, creating a rush for flats. Rents remain low, but expect fees upwards of €1,000 for flats near Maybachufer, unheard of even a few years ago. Also up-and-coming is the area around Volkspark Hasenheide. Neukölln is vast, and some of the areas furthest south – Buckow, Britz, Rudow – are quite suburban in feel.
