Organising A Marriage (Hindu)
Hindu marriages are conducted by the maharaj at Dubai’s Hindu Temple. The temple is run in conjunction with the Indian consulate, which solemnises the marriage.
Prerequisites
Both parties are Hindi and at least one of the couple should be an Indian citizen with a UAE residence visa.
What to bring
- Both parties’ birth certificates and passports with residence visa (originals and copies).
- Completed application forms (downloaded at cgidubai.com or indianembassyuae.org.
- Three witnesses who have a UAE residence visa.
- Resident ID cards (original and copy).
- Passport-sized photos (two).
- Completed application forms and sworn affidavit attested by the Indian embassy that shows both partners are free to get married.
- Divorce certificate, if applicable.
- No-impediment certificate from embassy if one of the parties is not Indian.
Procedure
- Hindu Temple, Bur Ali Bin Abi Taleb Street, Bur Dubai.
- Complete a Notice of Intended Marriage (fee of Dhs.190).
- Marriage notification will be published in newspaper in India and UAE. After 30 days, with no objection, the couple will be given a date for the solemnisation of the marriage.
- Submit all documents to the Hindu Temple’s Marriage Committee for approval (passports of bride, groom and witnesses must be submitted a day before).
- Witnesses must appear before the marriage officer at the consulate along with the bride and groom to sign the relevant documents.
- A decision will be made in one week. Upon approval, set a date for the ceremony when both the temple and maharaj are available.
- After the ceremony, you will be issued a marriage certificate.
- The marriage certificate should be attested at your embassy.
- Consulate will help with the further authentication process.
- People of other religions (Buddhist, Sikh or Bahai) can get married at their embassies or consulates.
