Urban & Denim

The streets around Les Halles are packed with great urban fashion boutiques, but there are a few brands which rate a special shopping mention. Italian labels Diesel and Replay have a couple of great outlets, particularly the stores on rue Etienne Marcel and Replay even has an outlet for super cool kids. Miss Sixty – famed for its ultra skinny jeans and sexy style – is also nearby. Carhartt has great denim cuts for men alongside stylish jackets in heavy cotton and denims. More directional is the fashion on offer from April 77, a French brand churning out the best in rock star style; think drainpipes for men and women, cropped jackets with zip detailing and distressed T-shirts. Find a good range at the boutique, Noir Kennedy. Along the same lines is Cheap Monday, a jeans-meets-fashion brand from Sweden that is now making an international impact. It has its own store on rue Sevigne, alongside rack space at Noir Kennedy and Kiliwatch. Baggier cuts are the trademark of Evisu, a Japanese designer denim label you can pick up at Shinzo (among other Parisian locales.) For avant-garde denim go straight to Marithe et Francois Girbaud. The French label produces streetwear in high-tech fabrics using laser cutting and welding, churning out some highly original pieces not for the self-conscious.
