Before you fly into Abu Dhabi, be aware that several prescription medications are banned, especially anything containing codeine or temazepam. The UAE maintains a zero-tolerance policy on recreational drugs, and even microscopic amounts could land you in jail. Your bags will be scanned on arrival to ensure you have no offending magazines or DVDs. Each passenger is allowed to bring in 400 cigarettes, 2kg of loose tobacco or cigars worth up to Dhs.3,000. Non-Muslims are also allowed five bottles of wine, four bottles of liquor or 24 cans of beer and there is a value limit of Dhs.3,000 on gifts being brought into Abu Dhabi by travellers.
