Staying Safe
There are however some unique dangers in the emirate, mainly when you're in the water or the desert, so it pays to make sure you're away of what could happen. In the city you're unlikely to be the victim of a crime... the biggest danger you'll probably encounter is the traffic. Driving standards are poor, including those of many taxi drivers, so if you're in a car then make sure you wear your seatbelt. If you're driving, keep alert and always expect other cars to do the unexpected as they often do just that. And watch out for pedestrians too, especially in car parks where they appear to have little inclination to move for oncoming cars, if indeed they've even noticed them. Visitors going for a walk should also be extra vigilant when near roads and don't presume pedestrian crossings or even hard shoulders are safe places to be.
