Train

Germany has an excellent train network for regional and long-distance travel. Berlin’s new central station is one the most modern rail terminals in the world. The national railway operator is Deutsche Bahn. Although much criticised by Germans, its trains are usually punctual and comfortable. They are, however, not cheap and you’ll need to buy tickets either in advance or take advantage of special offers. You can also purchase a BahnCard, which offers discounts for frequent travellers. Deutsche Bahn has high-speed ICE trains on routes between major cities and overnight sleeper cars for international travel connections. The website www.bahn.de has all the information you’ll need and you can book tickets online.
