Shopping & Amenities

Most Wilmersdorf residents cite the availability of shopping, from supermarkets to clothing boutiques, as one of the area’s draws. Fasanenplatz, Ludwigkirchplatz and Rüdesheimer Platz offer the greatest density of shops. The shopping riches of Charlottenburg, most notably the Ku’damm, are also close at hand. Busy thoroughfares such as Berliner Strasse are best for supermarkets and chemists. The great outdoor amenity of Wilmersdorf, the Grunewald, ranges across 3,000 hectares of forest, trails and lakes. The woods here are surprisingly wild, given that they lie inside the Berlin city limits: wild boars are spotted regularly. Berlin’s highest mountain, Teufelsberg, rises above Grunewald. It’s not a mountain but actually a massive soil-and-tree-covered pile of debris from the war, but that doesn’t stop it offering pleasant hikes and sweeping vistas. Smaller than the Grunewald but also enjoyable, the Volkspark Wilmersdorf runs in a long belt through the southern section of the district, from Schöneberg to the ring road.
