Car Hire

You need a UAE driving licence to drive a hire car if you’re a resident; tourists can drive them with their domestic licence and an International Driving Permit. This may not be enforced but it's best to not take chances. International Driving Permits should be easy to come by in your home country. In the UK for example, you simply take a passport photo, your driving licence and a small payment of around £5 to a main post office and they produce the permit while you wait.

Hire car companies
Reputable hire car companies will include registration, maintenance, replacement, 24 hour assistance and insurance in their fee, meaning you just have to drive it and fill it with petrol. There's a good selection of hire car desks in the SKYPARK at Abu Dhabi International Airport, that signs from arrivals will lead you to.

The longer you book your rental car for, the cheaper the rate you receive will be; a small economy car should cost you around  Dhs.100 per day or as little as Dhs.1,700 per month, but it’s worth shopping around to get the best deal. For peace of mind it’s worth paying more to ensure a high-level of comprehensive cover, including personal accident coverage, and cover for Oman should you be planning on a spot of exploring. If you plan on drving to Dubai the Salik charges (tolls) will be added to your monthly bill, registered by the sensors there through the Salik tag on the windscreen.
