Transport
Almost all U and S lines converge in Mitte, home to the major stations Alexanderplatz and Friedrichstrasse, as well as the new Hauptbahnhof. The tram lines of east Berlin also fan outward from Mitte, and many bus lines cut through the district. If you want to be able to reach as many parts of Berlin as possible quickly and easily, Mitte is the place to live. Driving can be rather unpleasant: streets are narrow for the trams, cars and taxis that share them, and the seemingly permanent construction site around Alexanderplatz is a hellish place to drive or cycle.
