Parking
Despite the lack of available space in the city, parking is plentiful, whether in car parks or at metered spaces. Many car parks use a stacking system, stacking cars one on top of the other with the use of clever electronics. If your car has a GPS system, finding a space is easy as it will locate car parks and highlight them with a small ‘P’ on the screen. When parking in a metered space, make sure to place the car’s wheels over the metre flap – this operates mechanically once you park and the metering will kick in. Payment is in cash – notes only – at the nearby machine. Not paying will incur a fine. Some car parks offer monthly rates, usually around ¥50,000, but otherwise it’s pay as you go.
