Voluntary & Charity Work

Opportunities for voluntary and charitable work are relatively limited for non-Japanese speakers. Websites for groups such as Foreign Executive Women in Japan (FEW), the only English-language directory of charitable and voluntary organisations in the city, are a good place to start (www.fewjapan.com). Options listed include everything from branches of the Guardian Angels and Amnesty International to environmental and social charities. Working for these organisations on a paid basis requires a valid work visa. English-speaking volunteers are always welcome with organisations such as the prominent Tokyo English Life Line.
