Despite words to the contrary, Germany’s public insurers only pay for minimal prevention programmes, so mammograms won’t be covered unless a doctor has reason to believe you’re at risk of breast cancer or are already showing symptoms. The exception is a rare government programme for women between 50 and 69, though their mammograms are only covered if performed in special government centres.
