Main Government Hospitals
Berlin is covered in hospitals and each district has at least one, if not several. Because hospitals are required to provide basic healthcare services for their area, all have an emergency room and then specialise in a dozen or so different types of medicine. Your family doctor or specialist will be the best source for determining which hospital to go to for non-emergency visits. The city has begun privatising some of the hospitals but the ownership is irrelevant as your insurance will be picking up the bill. A handful of private clinics cater to a more moneyed clientele, but they’re often in unexpected locations where you wouldn’t go looking for medical help, such as in an upscale shopping mall.
