Prenzlauer Berg is one of Berlin’s best dining areas. The district has good German, Italian, Japanese, Thai, French, American and Russian cuisine, as well as an abundance of cafes, many of which serve delicious cakes (Liebling and Sowohl als Auch, especially). Sunday brunch is a speciality. You can find fastfood chains along Schönhauser Allee and cheap Thai, Vietnamese and Middle Eastern take-out joints, some of them quite good, throughout the district. Though many lament that the nightlife has lost its edge, Prenzlauer Berg still has plenty of bars, especially in the streets around Helmholzplatz.
