Seal Beach

‘Cute’ is an adjective often applied to this coastal community, named for the seals that once thronged the beaches. Old Town Seal Beach is a faded but charming remnant of a once-popular resort. It features a shady, tree-lined Main Street, reminiscent of small town America during the mid 1900’s. The Red Car Museum (562 683 1874) on Electric Avenue near Main Street sits in a rare version of the old Red Cars, built in 1925. The area is also home to renowned sand sculptor Gerry Kirk, who claims the sand at Seal Beach is some of the best in the world since it compacts well, and its colour provides contrast.
