Brentwood

Brentwood is overshadowed by the Santa Monica Mountains and includes most of the exclusive Bel-Air Estates. It is locally famous for its many Italian eateries. Originally part of a Spanish land grant and later an agricultural district, Brentwood is now one of the wealthiest neighbourhoods in Los Angeles. The term ‘upscale’ is an understatement for this community of spectacular multi-million dollar homes and celebrity residents, among them ‘Der Governator’, Arnold Schwarzenegger. It is also home to The Getty Center, the fabulous museum complex perched high on a ridgeline above the 405 freeway. Since it opened in 1997, The Getty has been recognised as one of the greatest museums in the world, and although its reputation was tarnished recently in scandals involving the museum’s acquisition of looted antiquities, its collection of Greek and Roman sculpture is among the best in the world.
