Going It Alone

To avoid going through a driving school, you can try and go it alone. Submit an application for a learner’s permit to a licensing centre (see table left) and take both an eye exam and a 50 question, true or false test. If all is good, you will take two road tests at the test centre. If you pass these, you will need to sit a 90 question, true or false exam, followed (if you pass) by yet another driving test. Clear that hurdle, and all that’s left is a mandatory class about what to do in emergencies. If you fail, keep practising (perhaps with a private instructor), and take the test again when you’re ready.
