Laundry Services

There are numerous launderettes dotted throughout the city. Coin Laundry (www.coinlaundry.co.jp) is a large chain with a number of branches in Western Tokyo while Shimizuyu Laundry (3-12-3 Minami Aoyama and 1-17-5 Minami Aoyama, Minato-ku) near exit A4 of Omotesandō station covers the city centre.

To wash a load will cost from ¥150 to ¥300 – cold water washes are the cheaper option. Many people put on a load and leave, returning just as it finishes, but be warned, the launderette will not take responsibility for stolen clothes.

Most apartments have their own washing machine (often found on the balcony due to limited space).

Drycleaning is cheap and there are drycleaners all over the city. It usually takes a couple of days and some places will deliver for an additional fee. Prices vary but on average expect to pay around ¥700 for trousers, ¥1,900 for coats and ¥600 for skirts. Well-known chains like Hakuyosha (www.hakuyosha.co.jp) offer a range of additional services such as curtain and carpet cleaning, and pick up and delivery.
