Public Health Insurance
Some 90% of Germans are covered by public health insurers, which are often remnants of union- or trade-based insurers that are now open to outsiders. Monthly fees are calculated as a portion of gross monthly wages and vary by insurer from just under 13% to more than 15%. Employers are required to pick up half the tab. Since there’s little variation in coverage, shop around for one that costs the least.
