Germany’s vibrant capital is still very much in transformation, with exciting new buildings replacing drab, Communist-built blocks, and a rich cultural scene including three major opera houses and outstanding museums and galleries. A surprisingly green city, it also offers much in the way of shopping, restaurants, nightlife and overall buzz; in short, its contrasts make it an excellent mini-break destination from Paris. Best time to visit: year round, but November-March can be bleak months.
