Canoeing
With a long sea coast, sheltered harbours and hundreds of lakes and rivers, New Zealand is the ultimate destination for anyone who loves to paddle. Most kiwi canoeists and kayakers paddle for fun and love nothing better than hitting the water alone or with a friend or two. If you’re more competitive or would like the support of a group, contact the New Zealand Recreational Canoeing Association (NZRCA). The NZRCA (www.rivers.org.nz, 027 20 96 101) has several member clubs and is actively involved in conservation and safety. Plenty of operators offer casual canoeing and kayaking experiences.
