Montsouris

At the city’s southern edge, the Cité Universitaire seems like another country – or possibly several. A large student campus, it dates from the 1920s, and its international aspirations are reflected in an astonishing line-up of architectural styles. The main attraction for visitors, though, is the expansive Parc Montsouris across the new tramway that runs along the southern boulevards Maréchaux. The park was created during the Haussmann era when informal gardens in the English style were all the rage. Don’t finish up here without taking a stroll up square de Montsouris, a narrow lane full of highly stylised villas and tumbling creepers; look out for the early Le Corbusier house at the end.
