Canyoning

Oman’s interesting topography makes canyoning a popular activity here. It’s not for the timid though, as it’s often challenging and treacherous and involves using various methods, such as abseiling, scrambling and swimming, to ascend or descend a canyon. There are some awesome treks in the country including Wadi Shab, Snake Canyon, Wadi Hajir, Wadi Haylayn and Wadi Qashah, each with its own individual challenge and beauty and each with opportunities for canyoning.

There are risks associated with scrambling or abseiling down uneven and slippery surfaces so it’s really advisable that you go as part of a group and ensure that you have at least basic knowledge of first aid. Dress lightly, take sun protection along and always expect to get wet.

Although canyoning is an activity more commonly enjoyed by experienced groups, some tour companies do offer adventurous treks.
