With the numbers of expats from cricket loving nations living in Oman, as well as an increasing number of Omanis entering the sport, there is plenty of opportunity to get yourself in a team here.

There are currently 60 teams registered with the Oman Cricket Association (omanicricket.com), but many organisations have their own teams for inter company competitions and the sport is also becoming more popular in schools. The Oman national team won the Gulf Cup in 2009 and recently finished third in the 2011 Asian Cricket Council T20 championship after defeating hosts Nepal in a playoff.

If you want to start your own team and play in the various leagues and regional competitions, you can register with the Oman Cricket Association. The only conditions are that you have at least one Omani in your team, and that he bats in the top five. If you don’t have an Omani on your team, you have to play with only 10 men.
