Computers

Tokyo’s computer shops are at the cutting-edge of technology, and all the latest equipment and accessories can be found. Akihabara is noted for it’s speciality computer shops, especially if you like building your own from scratch. The area around the station is full of shops where you’ll find everything from new and used parts to shells, and all the other bits needed to build a computer. The selection can be overwhelming, so the more typical computer user can just head over to any of the larger electronics outlets. Prices are pretty much set across the board, however point-card schemes and discount schemes may differ, favouring one retailer over another. Both PC and Mac are easy to find, however foreign warranties may not be valid here. Repairs can be done through private companies or items can be sent back to the manufacturer. In the case of the latter, it can take months to get back to you. Manufacturers such as Dell and Apple have several shops around the city and can also be shopped online.
