Gifts
Gifts are a wonderful way to show your appreciation, and this is a welcome custom in Japan, where people often give food or fruit as small tokens of thanks. The food is usually a cake or a selection of chocolates from a well-known shop, or fancy fruit baskets. The food halls in department stores such as Isetan and Takashimaya are perfect places to shop. Chocolate shops are also a hit. Gifts are traditionally brought back for family, friends and even work colleagues from business trips or holidays – small souvenirs such as keychains or sweets are popular choices. Tokyu Hands and Loft are good shops for presents. For more personal gifts, items for the home, such as scented candles or nice teacups are a good choice. Utsuwa has lovely handmade pieces of ceramic for a range of different prices. Watashi no Heya carries Demeter room scents, little ceramic pieces, and the infamous French Diptyque candles.
